The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ a visit to the crater is a main drawcard for tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is home of Ngorongoro Crater. It was formed some 2.5 million years ago from a volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity, and was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania’s famous Kilimanjaro. The crater has evolved into a unique and integral part of Tanzania’s eco-system.

The crater is actually a caldera, measures 22.5 km’s across and the rim walls stand 600m high. Views from within and from the rim are breathtaking. The crater houses 30,000 animals and a large variety of birds, which rarely move from the area due to the availability of water through wet and dry seasons.

Later evening you will drive out the Crater for your overnight at one of our best lodge around the crater border.

This is the prehistoric site where Dr. Louis Leakey discovered the remains of homo habilis, which is regarded as mankind’s first path of human evolution. An afternoon game drive at Serengeti follows home to more than 35 species of plains animals such as zebra, wildebeest, eland, giraffe, among many others.

The park is the staging zone for one the most spectacular events in the world- the annual migration of wildebeest.

This commences around June were over 1 million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle head for the Masai mara in Kenya in search of greener pasture. They are followed closely by the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. The Serengeti also has over 500 species of birds.

Day 4: Drive to North Serengeti for Wildebeest Migration

After breakfast at the Lodge, Our guide will drive to North Serengeti, The place which is well known for Wildebeest Migration from June to October.

Serengeti National Park — Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area, with pride of lions up to 30 strong, however, from August to October the area turns into a wildlife paradise. The key feature is the Mara River and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later.

October marks the end of the dry season, and the “short rains” can sometimes start this month. It’s one of the warmer months of the year, with daytime highs averaging at 29C.

Some of the Great Migration herds are still in the Northern Serengeti (and still making Mara River crossings), but sometimes this month (depending on when the rains start), the herds start to move back down into the Serengeti from the Masai Mara this month, passing through the Loliondo Game Controlled Area (a concession outside of the park’s northern section).
Please take note:
To actually find a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck.

Day 5: Full Day Game Drive at North Serengeti National Park

October marks the end of the dry season, and the “short rains” can sometimes start this month. It’s one of the warmer months of the year, with daytime highs averaging at 29C.

Some of the Great Migration herds are still in the Northern Serengeti (and still making Mara River crossings), but sometimes this month (depending on when the rains start), the herds start to move back down into the Serengeti from the Masai Mara this month, passing through the Loliondo Game Controlled Area (a concession outside of the park’s northern section).

Depending on when the rains start in October, the herds of the Great Migration will start to make their way from the Masai Mara back down south into the Serengeti, however, the exact timing of this movement is unpredictable. There is a chance that you can still catch the last of the river crossings in the Northern Serengeti this month.

Falling at the end of the dry season, October’s very dry and thin vegetation means that this is an excellent month for seeing the resident game.
